Dec. 14, 1988. –Describes the history of study of fossil sirs. from the Bone Valley area, Polk and Hillsborough Cos., Florida; the geology and age of the Bone Valley deposits; the osteology of a large sample of M. floridanum from Bone Valley and a few specimens from elsewhere in Florida; and the phylogenetic relationships of the species. M. floridanum is considered to be Middle-Late Miocene in age, and a senior synonym of M. ossivallense. Reports of M. calvertense and "Hesperosiren" in the Bone Valley Formation actually pertain to M. floridanum. | ||
