Of the two, this paper is the more detailed and informative. It lists yalawa, kayumoru, and several variants of the latter as names for the manatee (erroneously supposed to be T. inunguis rather than T. manatus) in various Venezuelan Carib dialects. Concludes that the name manati was derived from Carib words for "(a woman's) breast" (9). | ||
